The City Government of Santa Rosa City, Laguna in the Philippines recognized ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Southeast Asia as one of its sustainable development partners during the “Gearing towards Robust, Engaging, and Eco-friendly Nature” (GREEN) Awards ceremony held on 21 July 2023.
Carrying the theme “Amidst GREEN City: Amplifying Local Actions through Transformative GREEN Solutions,” this year’s GREEN Awards recognized 46 individuals, groups, private businesses, non-government and citizen’s organizations, and national government agencies for their role in helping the city protect its environment.
The GREEN Awards form part of the city’s celebration of its Environment Day and is held in commemoration of both its Environment Code through City Ordinance number 1720-2011 and the 19th anniversary of its cityhood.
Leading the 2023 GREEN awards were Hon. Sta. Rosa City Mayor Arlene Arcillas, Hon. Sta. Rosa City Vice Mayor Arnold Arcillas, and City Environment and Natural Resources Office Head Engr. Maria Amor Salandanan, EnP, alongside City Counselors and Environmental Committee Members Hon. Sonia Algabre, Hon. Roy Gonzalez, and Hon. Mythor Cendaña.
ICLEI and Sta. Rosa have worked together on various sustainability efforts throughout the years, including Harnessing Cities’ Share in the Implementation of the Environment and Natural Resource Component of the Philippine NDC; Zero Carbon Building Accelerator (ZCBA); Access to Sustainable Energy Programme – Clean Energy Living Laboratories (ASEP – Cells); Building Efficiency Accelerator; The Urban Nexus: Integrated Resource Management in Asian Cities; Asian Cities Climate Change Resilience Network (ACCCRN); and the One Planet City Challenge.
Sta. Rosa has been an ICLEI Member City since 2017.
