CitiesWithWater webinar series and photography competition launches global campaign for urban water resilience

Urban areas around the world are facing escalating water challenges—ranging from droughts and floods to pollution. In response, the CitiesWithWater initiative, co-hosted by ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability and the World Water Council, is launching a new webinar series and photography competition to spotlight how cities are tackling these issues through innovative, nature-based solutions.

The CitiesWithWater Webinar Series will run throughout 2025 and explore three urgent water themes:

  • Too Little (March) – Addressing urban drought and water scarcity

  • Too Much (June) – Managing flooding and sea level rise

  • Too Dirty (September) – Dealing with pollution, wastewater, and sanitation

  • The series concludes with a Synthesis session (November/December), highlighting key learnings and promoting global-local collaboration.

Each 90-minute session features expert presentations, real-world examples, and interactive Q&A.

Alongside the webinars, the CitiesWithWater Photography Competition invites both professionals and amateur photographers to submit compelling images showcasing urban responses to water-related challenges. Entrants may submit one photo per theme category (Too Little, Too Much, Too Dirty), accompanied by a title and short story behind the image. Winners will be announced in August, will be awarded with generous cash prizes, and will also be featured across various events and platforms.

This initiative aims to inspire action, share best practices, and elevate the visibility of cities implementing sustainable water solutions.
