ICLEI Indonesia recently held a meeting with the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemen PPPA) to explore potential collaboration on the Enhancing Local Capacities in Socially Inclusive Resilience in Asia (SIRA) project held as part of the Climate Adaptation and Resilience (CLARE) programme. The meeting invited key staff from the ministry to discuss opportunities for advancing gender equality and inclusivity in climate resilience initiatives.

During the meeting, Dra. Dewa Ayu Laksmiadi Janapriati, M.Parass, Deputy for Gender Equality at Kemen PPPA, expressed keen support for the CLARE-SIRA project in Indonesian cities and regencies. She emphasized the importance of incorporating gender equality into climate action planning and implementation, particularly in disaster management and building climate resilience.

“It’s a great alignment that SIRA has already partnered with the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). We look forward to supporting this initiative, especially in promoting gender equality and inclusivity,” said Janapriati.

This partnership with Kemen PPPA is a key step in ensuring that gender perspectives are fully incorporated into the SIRA project, which aligns with national and regional disaster management agencies for implementation at the local and city levels. The partnership highlights the growing recognition that tackling climate change challenges requires inclusive approaches that address the needs of all, especially women and children.

As the SIRA project progresses, ICLEI Indonesia, in collaboration with Kemen PPPA, will continue working toward more inclusive and resilient communities, advancing both climate adaptation and gender equality.

The CLARE-SIRA project is funded by UK Aid through FCDO and the International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada. It aims to strengthen local governments’ capacity to implement inclusive and sustainable climate action strategies. Led by ICLEI Southeast Asia and South Asia Secretariats, the project focuses on building climate resilience at the local level, ensuring that gender considerations are integrated into every phase of climate adaptation planning.
