[Case Study] Enhancing climate change resilience of coastal communities in Del Carmen: Mangrove restoration and beyond

From the possibility of total loss, Del Carmen has managed to restore its mangrove forest which now serves as a barrier to storm surges and provides a healthy marine ecosystem, increasing the communities’ overall climate change resilience. However, the destruction wrought by Typhoon Odette in 2021 showed that their efforts are not enough, and Del Carmen is now implementing additional measures to heighten its adaptive capacities.

This case study was produced by the ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat (SEAS) in November 2024.
