Mr. Indra Yuliawan from Allianz Insurance explains their program to support waste management in Jakarta.
Jakarta, Indonesia – ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability Yayasan Indonesia in coordination with DKI Jakarta Provincial Government organized the 2nd City Business Accelerator Workshop (CiBiX) in Jakarta City Hall on 19 September 2019. This activity is part of the as a part of Ambitious City Promises (ACP) project, which aims to support Jakarta as it strives to reduce its GHG emissions by 30% by 2030.
This workshop aimed to surface concrete actions from the private sector and to introduce the Ikhtiar Jakarta—an integrated and inclusive climate action plan that is informed by both technical information and the feedback from the city’s various stakeholders. Discussions from this workshop will be processed as inputs to this climate action plan.
The private sector’s response to the climate crisis
The workshop found out that the business sector in Jakarta already has initiatives in place that support low carbon development. One of which is the Yo Waste, a program by Allianz Insurance that allows people to exchange their waste for a premium.

The provincial government of DKI Jakarta welcomes the significant support of the private sector in reducing its GHG emissions.
Mr. Indra Yuliawan from Allianz Insurance said, “This program aimed to support waste management in Jakarta and to promote financial inclusion.” Through this program, citizens can get as much as five million rupiah in insurance in exchange for waste worth five thousand rupiah depending the standard of each waste bank.
On the other hand, Mr. Riefky from PT. Kereta Commuter Indonesia (PT. KCI) shared they will soon launch eco-friendly options at their three stations. These options include solar-powered mobile phone charging systems, segregated waste bins, and a vertical garden space.
The Ambitious City Promises (ACP) project is a 3.5 years international project funded by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety (BMU) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI) program. It is implemented by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability in close cooperation with the Seoul Metropolitan Government. The project commits to reduce GHG emissions through participatory and inclusive local climate actions in selected cities in Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam.
