ICLEI Southeast Asia on 6-7 May 2026 presented membership plaques to eight Indonesian member cities during the National Policy Dialogue and Capacity Strengthening Training in Jakarta held under the Enhancing local capacities in socially inclusive resilience in Asia (SIRA) Project.
Celebrating years of partnership between ICLEI Indonesia and the local governments across the country, Victorino Aquitania, ICLEI Southeast Asia Regional Director, and Raditya Jati, Deputy of System and Strategy at the Indonesia National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) awarded the plaques to Bogor City (Siti Halimatusyadiah, S.Hut., M.Sc.); Balikpapan City (Herti Ayu Yusvalina, S.T.); Cirebon City (Dwi Yanti, S.T.); Jakarta Province (Susi Andriani); Jambi City (Farida Lahay., S.T., M.T); Probolinggo City (Kurnia Nurwahyuni, S.E.); Bontang City (Muji Esti Wahyudi); and Yogyakarta City (Mochammad Syaifullah, S.T.).

Beyond marking membership, the recognition highlighted the eight cities’ contribution to advancing climate action, resilience, and sustainable urban development through mitigation and adaptation projects over the years.
As a global network of local and regional governments, ICLEI supports its member cities through a broad range of capacity-building opportunities, including international events, case study exchanges, peer-to-peer learning, and both online and in-person training. Members benefit from early access to information and are regularly invited to engage in activities at national, regional, and global levels.
In Indonesia, ICLEI’s work has been closely coordinated over the past several years with key national ministries and agencies, including the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri), the National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB), the Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas), the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), and the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA). This collaboration helps ensure that local climate and sustainability actions are well aligned with national development priorities and policy frameworks.
At the implementation level, ICLEI Indonesia supports a wide range of programmes aimed at advancing sustainable, zero-carbon, and climate-resilient development in cities and regions across the country.
Over the past decade, ICLEI has supported Indonesian cities as they navigate the complex transition toward more sustainable and resilient urban systems. Through a series of pioneering initiatives, it has worked with local governments to co-develop practical solutions and strengthen local capacity.
Completed and notable programmes include Urban-LEDS II in Balikpapan and Bogor; Ambitious City Promises (ACP) in DKI Jakarta, Tangerang, and Bekasi; the 100% Renewable Energy Cities (100RE) and Regions Roadmap in West Nusa Tenggara, Mataram, and Sumbawa; Urban Article 6 in Yogyakarta; Safe and Sound Cities in Bandung; and UrbanShift across Semarang, Jakarta, Bitung, Balikpapan, and Palembang.
Beyond these initiatives, ICLEI Indonesia continues to assist cities in global and regional programmes such as the NDC Partnership, the Enhancing Local Capacities in Socially Inclusive Resilience in Asia initiative, the One Planet City Challenge, and Asian Circular City Initiative which together engage a broad network of cities and regencies across Indonesia.
