Bloomberg Philanthropies has opened the next round of its Youth Climate Action Fund in an effort to strengthen young people’s participation in local climate action.
The Fund is led by the Bloomberg Center for Public Innovation at Johns Hopkins University, United Cities and Local Governments, and C40 Cities.
Up to 300 local governments will be selected for this phase, each set to receive USD 50,000 and technical support to run climate-related innovation competitions among young people ages 15 to 24. Cities which will make full use of the initial funding within one year will receive an additional USD 50,000 to implement even more youth-led efforts responding to local climate priorities.
The fund has already supported 100 subnational governments worldwide, engaging over 100,000 young people to develop 250 green spaces, build 118 composting stations, plant over 150,000 trees and native plants, establish 3,000 community gardens, and reclaim over 325,000 pounds of waste.
City governments interested in joining the next phase are invited to submit a non-binding Expression of Interest accessible via the Youth Climate Action Fund website: https://bloombergcities.jhu.edu/program/youth-climate-action-fund
