With regional urgency growing, the event focused on developing practical, forward-looking pathways for Southeast Asia to build a competitive and sustainable energy future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>As a supporting partner, ICLEI \u2013 Local Governments for Sustainability Indonesia took part in a high-level dialogue, with Country Manager Arif Wibowo joining the panel discussion on <i>ASEAN collaboration on energy transition<\/i> on the second day. He shared a case study on identifying a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2025\/06\/26\/yogyakarta-city-hosts-national-dialogue-on-urban-carbon-financing-for-sustainable-waste-solutions\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff\"><strong>carbon-financed project in Yogyakarta City\u2019s waste sector<\/strong><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/aseanenergy.org\/news-clipping\/southeast-asia-may-become-net-fossil-fuel-importer-in-coming-years-iea\/\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff\"><strong>ASEAN reports<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff\"><strong>,<\/strong><\/span> Southeast Asia, one of the world\u2019s most economically dynamic regions, remains highly dependent on coal imports. <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iea.org\/news\/southeast-asias-role-in-the-global-energy-system-is-set-to-grow-strongly-over-next-decade\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff\">IEA reports<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> that scaling up clean energy investments is crucial for the region to reduce emissions, as Southeast Asia attracts only 2% of global clean energy investment despite accounting for 6% of global GDP, 5% of global energy demand, and being home to 9% of the world\u2019s population.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thejakartapost.com\/adv\/2025\/06\/12\/ft-energy-transition-summit-asia-2025-to-highlight-indonesias-energy-transition-efforts.html\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff\"><strong>As reported by Jakarta Post<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">, the summit is also set to a backdrop of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/jetp-id.org\/\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff\">JETP<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> mobilizing US$20 billion in public and private financing, with Indonesia poised to transform its power sector by aiming to limit emissions at 290 million tonnes by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eniya Listiani Dewi, director general of new, renewable energy and energy conservation at the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry and Paul Butarbutar, acting head of the Just Energy Transition Partnership (JETP) Secretariat are among the key speakers to address the challenges and opportunities presented by the JETP, exploring how to unlock financial resources, prepare for grid electrification, and close renewable energy gaps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In another panel, the summit discussed <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/energytransitionasia.live.ft.com\/agenda\/session\/1587151\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff\">tensions between economic growth and environmental responsibility<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> in Indonesia, focusing on coal transition, mining emissions, and liquefied natural gas reliance.
