{"id":9879,"date":"2025-07-29T10:07:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-29T02:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/?p=9879"},"modified":"2025-07-29T10:10:41","modified_gmt":"2025-07-29T02:10:41","slug":"four-southeast-asian-cities-named-finalists-in-2025-bloomberg-mayors-challenge","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2025\/07\/29\/four-southeast-asian-cities-named-finalists-in-2025-bloomberg-mayors-challenge\/","title":{"rendered":"Four Southeast Asian cities named finalists in 2025 Bloomberg Mayors Challenge"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Four Southeast Asian cities, including two ICLEI members, have been named <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/bloombergcities.jhu.edu\/program\/mayors-challenge\/2025-finalist-cities\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>among the 50 global finalists<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> in the 2025 Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayors Challenge, a competition that supports ambitious ideas to improve cities and their residents\u2019 lives, specifically along the themes of sustainability, health, jobs, and basic services.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">These finalists from the region include ICLEI member cities Pasig and Naga from the Philippines, as well as Cauayan City, Philippines and Surabaya City, Indonesia.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">From over 600 applications worldwide, Pasig, Naga, Cauayan, and Surabaya stood out for ideas grounded in real community needs.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Pasig City was recognized for its goal of transforming underused waterways into floating parks hosting services such as recreation, health clinics, and libraries. Naga is developing an AI- and citizen-powered early warning system for extreme rains and floods. <\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Meanwhile, Cauayan City is creating a dengue early warning system, and Surabaya City is aiming to shift its citizens from single-use diapers to locally-produced and environment-friendly cloth diapers.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Each finalist city will receive a USD 50,000 grant to test and refine their ideas, with expert support over the coming months.
