I hope this marks\u00a0 the starting point of our collaboration and partnership to create a better world &#8220;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Harry Hadi, Head of the Regional Development Agency of Palembang City, Indonesia, delivered this closing statement on behalf of the city leaders in attendance during the final day of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiftcities.org\/event\/asia-forum-2023\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">UrbanShift Asia forum<\/span><\/strong><\/a> held in New Delhi, India, from September 25 to 28, 2023.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_8351\" style=\"width: 6010px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8351\" class=\"wp-image-8351 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6000\" height=\"3376\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o.jpg 6000w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/10\/53217575580_827bc2fefc_o-958x539.jpg 958w\"  sizes=\"(max-width: 6000px) 100vw, 6000px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-8351\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Officials representatives from cities in India, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Jordan, and China attended the opening session of UrbanShift Asian Forum on 25 September 2023.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The 3-day regional high-level event gathered over 250 participants consisting of city leaders, experts, and urban practitioners from cities across India, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Jordan, and China.\u00a0More than 20 Indonesian delegates representing national and sub-national government officials participated in the event.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The participants engaged in dialogues and technical assistance sessions to identify a wide range of urban challenges, collaborate on solutions, and connect around shared goals.\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Indonesian cities push forward sustainable urban development\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>At the national level, Indonesia continues to recognize the important role of cities in urban development. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0Togu Santoso Pardede, Director of Local Development at the Indonesian\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/bappenas-ri\/\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Ministry of National Development Planning (Bappenas) <\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">during his keynote speech the the forum\u2019s opening session, shared<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8220;Indonesia, through the Sustainable Cities Impact Programme (<a href=\"https:\/\/lcdi-indonesia.id\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/01\/P173446-GEF-SCIP-Environmental-and-Social-Commitment-Plan-ESCP-17Des2021-clean.pdf\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>SCIP<\/strong><\/span><\/a>), seeks to implement and mainstream environmental and climate components in the urban development plans. Balikpapan City in Indonesia continues to instigate city climate action since its participation in the <a href=\"https:\/\/urban-leds.org\/cities-of-balikpapan-and-bogor-review-urban-leds-project-i\/\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Urban LEDS project in 2019<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. Showcasing its recent best practices in one of the sessions, Murni Supeno of Balikpapan\u2019s Development Planning Agency shared that they created an online portal called\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/rumahinovasiku.balikpapan.go.id\/index.php\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">My Innovation House<\/span> <\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">which<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> allows users to share their innovations. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">My Innovation House facilitates access to non-monetary opportunities such as local or international networking and publicity. All submissions are publicly available on the portal. Urban growth and expansion are among the pressing issues the city has to overcome in realizing a sustainable future. Jakarta\u2019s Deputy Head of Development Planning, Tri Indrawan, shared Jakarta\u2019s lessons learned on overcoming its urban challenges through its Transit Oriented Development Goals (TOD) program. The strategies include policy shifts in many sectors, including transportation, housing, and environmental issues. Highlighted during the City Academy session was one of the best practices of urban expansion in Jakarta, which saw the green zone development of Daan Mogot Apartment, governed under the governor regulations No.21\/2017.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the second day, a High-Level Investors Roundtable, a session organized by C40 Cities, saw a discussion on financial strategies for bus electrification and vehicle logistics in India and Indonesia. Sitanggang, moderated the event and started the session with a presentation titled \u201cPowering Change: Exploring Innovative Business Models for Transjakarta Electrification.\u201d Present as panel speakers were Head of Road Transport Division of DKI Jakarta Provincial Transportation Agency, Ferdinand Ginting, and Head of Jakarta Investment Center, Tona Hutauruk.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Launching of the UrbanShift City Academy<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UrbanShift Asia forum also saw the launch of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.shiftcities.org\/online-city-academy\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Urbanshift City Academy<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, a curated online learning program that is freely available for urban development practitioners interested in deepening their knowledge on urban climate finance and urban growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Specifically, the UrbanShift City Academy offers open access to eight self-paced and interactive online courses focused on urban planning themes that are critical to shaping low-carbon, climate-resilient, and inclusive cities.
