We understood the science. We are feeling its impact. Now is a crucial time to act and we need to act fast. Addressing climate change impact and making headway with long-term goals such as net zero and race to resilience require the collaborative effort of the different sectors of society and all stakeholders.\u201d<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration has observed a 0.75\u00b0C increase in the country\u2019s annual temperature in the past 70 years, with the figure expected to soar to 1.8\u00b0C by 2050\u2014well above the international target of limiting global warming to 1.5\u00b0C. It recently signed an agreement with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to establish an electric bus-based smart public transport system in the city. This will complement the planned Makati subway to decongest the city\u2019s roads and reduce its carbon emissions. The local government also plans to purchase a fleet of electric vehicles for its operations.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Makati City is the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/talkofthecities.iclei.org\/cities-race-to-resilience-a-global-campaign-to-catalyze-cities-resilient-action\/#:~:text=Makati%20is%20the%20first%20city,change%2C%E2%80%9D%20said%20Mayor%20Binay.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>first local government in the world to join the Cities Race to Resilience<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\">. Since 2017, it has continuously invested in disaster equipment and distributed emergency bags and hard hats to its citizens to promote disaster preparedness.
