The province undertook a renewable energy (RE) and energy efficiency (EE) identification and prioritization workshop with Mataram City and Sumbawa Regency last 20 April 2022 to explore potential ways of utilizing the untapped resources.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop was conducted under the 100% Renewables \u2013 Cities &amp; Regions Roadmap program wherein WNT is the main project city and Mataram City and Sumbawa Regency are network cities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Participating in the workshop were relevant local stakeholders, including representatives from the local governments\u2019 Department of Energy and Mineral Resources (DESDM), Development Planning Agency (BAPPEDA), Department of Transportation, Department of Industry, Department of Agriculture and Plantations, and the academe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7010\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7010\" class=\"wp-image-7010 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2.png 800w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/2-768x576.png 768w\"  sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7010\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Representatives from Mataram City discussing possible renewable energy and energy efficiency projects during the workshop.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The identification and prioritization workshop considered key elements such as (1) the existing policies and regulations at the national, provincial, and city\/district levels, (2) the feasibility of the proposed project locations in accordance with the available space, and (3) potential support from various parties.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ir. Zainal Abidin, M.Si, head of the WNT DESDM, stated that the 100% RE 2050 target is possible to achieve, especially through the exploration of financing tools. &#8220;With limited funds allocated at the provincial and city levels, investments from other parties can provide hope for the region to develop RE and EE projects and therefore increase the ratio of renewable sources in the energy mix,&#8221; said Zainal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Dr. Ir. Hj. Sitti Rohmi Djalilah, M.Pd., WNT Deputy Governor, noted that developing electric vehicles (EVs) such as electric buses could be a promising project. \u201cWe hope that the external parties could also support the implementation of energy efficiency in government buildings,&#8221; said Sitti.<\/span><\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7011\" style=\"width: 810px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-7011\" class=\"wp-image-7011 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/3.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/3.png 800w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/3-300x225.png 300w, https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/3-768x576.png 768w\"  sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-7011\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Representatives from Sumbawa Regency discussing possible renewable energy and energy efficiency projects during the workshop.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The workshop resulted in the identification of several potential RE\/EE projects in the two satellite cities. The results also align with the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/e-lib.iclei.org\/publications\/Published%20Initial%20Status%20Report%20of%20West%20Nusa%20Tenggara%20%281%29.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>initial status report<\/strong><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2021\/05\/12\/west-nusa-tenggara-envisions-a-100-renewable-energy-future\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">energy modeling result<\/span><\/strong><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, both of which highlighted solar energy as a main component of reaching the province\u2019s 100% RE target. Owing to its practicality, solar photovoltaic technology and projects are popularly used in areas such as public street lighting, agriculture, and EV charging stations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Other renewable and energy efficiency projects were also proposed, including biogas, micro-hydro power plant, waste to energy, biomass plant, and building retrofitting.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The identified projects will serve as a reference for developing bankable proposals that will support the implementation of the WNT 100% RE roadmap in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>(in photo above)\u00a0The participants of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Identification and Prioritization Workshop for Mataram City and Sumbawa Regency.
