The European Union-supported <\/span>Access to Sustainable Energy Program -Clean Energy Living Laboratories<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (ASEP-CELLs) and ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat (ICLEI-SEAS) last 25 and 30 June 2021 held a two-part workshop introducing building energy modeling (BEM) and solar photovoltaic (PV) system simulation tools to the Bohol Provincial Government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Around 20 participants from Bohol\u2019s multi-sectoral technical working group for ASEP-CELLs participated in the workshop led by ICLEI-SEAS consultant Engr. Isabelo Rabuya along with his research assistants, engineers Mark Anthony Cabilo, Carlito Baco, <\/span>Lanie Calabio, and Melissa Libres.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The first workshop tackled how to conduct and assess building energy performance using software such as <\/span>SketchUp<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, <\/span>OpenStudio<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and <\/span>EnergyPlus<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. Using building data from the Bohol provincial capitol, the workshop aimed to teach participants how to interpret building energy simulation data, identify EEC measures that can be implemented, and estimate the resulting monetary savings and greenhouse gas emissions reduction due to lessened energy consumption.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the second workshop made use of tools such as <\/span>HelioScope<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory <\/span>System Advisor Model<\/strong><\/span><\/a> (SAM) to design and simulate the technical and financial parameters of installing a grid-tied solar photovoltaic system. The workshop enabled the participants to understand the tool\u2019s features and data outputs from the simulation, empowering them with the information they need for effective decision-making.<\/span><\/p>\n

Engr. Isabelo Rabuya emphasized the placement of energy efficiency in terms of cost and complexity in the clean energy pyramid.<\/p><\/div>\n

The workshops complement <\/span>the study previously conducted<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by Engr. Rabuya and his team on the Bohol provincial capitol\u2019s energy performance and techno-economic assessment of a solar photovoltaic system on the provincial capitol. It also fostered an appreciation of the processes involved in coming up with the study.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, the participants expressed that the workshop improved their knowledge on building energy modelling and solar PV system simulation.<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop is part of a series of capacity-building activities supported by ASEP-CELLs.
