Project Manager of WWF-Philippines Imee Bellen explained that aside from challenging local governments to make ambitious actions to address climate change, OPCC also gives a platform for cities to be recognized for the innovative and valuable work that they do to forward environmental sustainability.<\/p><\/div>\n

Through OPCC<\/span><\/a>, participating cities shall be able to showcase their share of commitments and actions to contribute to the global efforts to address climate change. The challenge also serves as a platform for cities to recognition from the international community and share inspiration to other local governments. OPCC also fosters peer-to-peer knowledge exchange–allowing participating cities to learn from each other and pick up replicable solutions which they can apply to their own contexts and challenges.<\/p>\n ICLEI SEAS, in the same activity, introduced the newly-launched CDP-ICLEI Unified Reporting System<\/span><\/a>; a platform where participating cities can report their commitments and actions to address climate change. The unified platforms affords the cities the convenience of reporting only once and have their data shared to affiliated networks including the\u00a0Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energ<\/span>y<\/span><\/a>, ICLEI, and WWF\u2019s OPCC.<\/p>\n Ms. Pamela Cabacungan, Project Officer for Mitigation of ICLEI SEAS provided an overview of the platform including its features as well as the reporting process and requirements for OPCC. This was followed by a hands-on exercise wherein ICLEI SEAS helped the participants to navigate through the platform and input their climate data as their entries to the competition.<\/p>\n In the context of OPCC, participating cities are required to submit their reports through the platform in order to be considered as official competitors.<\/p>\n The cities\u2019 profiles uploaded to the platform will be the basis for evaluation by WWF\u2019s international jury. This evaluation determines the winners of this edition.<\/p>\n WWF Philippines and ICLEI SEAS will be visiting first-time competitors in the succeeding weeks to deliver technical assistance in using the CDP-ICLEI Unified Platform.
