This is in accordance with DKI Jakarta’s Regulation 131/2012 on Local Action Plan on GHG Emission Reduction (RAD-GRK), which states a GHG reduction target of 30% by 2030. This was highlighted by Ms. Fitratunnisa, Head of DKI Jakarta’s Environmental Governance and Cleanliness during the Knowledge Management Forum (KMF) held in Bogor City on 3-5 July 2018.

Themed “Multi-Level Governance in Achieving NDC in Indonesia,” the event was attended by representatives from around 25 provincial, city, and regency governments and cities in Indonesia. The event was organized by ICLEI Indonesia in collaboration with APEKSI and the Bogor City Government.

DKI Jakarta’s GHG emission reduction target serves as inspiration and lesson for other cities to set an ambitious climate goal and use this as an important consideration in the city’s overall development planning. Ms. Fitratunnisa added that more than setting a target, other policies also need to be in place. DKI Jakarta’s commitment was strengthened with the issuance of Governor Regulation No. 38/2012 on Green Buildings in an effort to reduce emissions from the energy sector. She also added the importance of multi-level governance collaboration to achieve the NDC Target.

During the event, participants discussed opportunities and challenges on vertical and horizontal integration; citing technical issues concerning planning and implementation. In terms of vertical integration, cities reiterated the need for them to be included in national and provincial processes concerning climate change; especially in formulating the GHG inventory.

DKI Jakarta currently serves as the model city of the ICLEI-led project, Ambitious City Promises. Supported by the German Federal Ministry of the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU) through its International Climate Initiative (IKI), the project supports the city in coming up with an ambitious climate action plan that mainstreams low emission development and is driven by citizen engagement.

Read more about the Knowledge Management Forum here.

Ms. Fitratunnisa, Head of DKI Jakarta’s Environmental Governance and Cleanliness (third from left) shares the city’s experience in accelerating its GHG emission reduction target of 30% by 2030.
