{"id":3606,"date":"2018-07-20T10:57:02","date_gmt":"2018-07-20T10:57:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icleiseas.org\/?p=3606"},"modified":"2018-08-23T03:14:14","modified_gmt":"2018-08-23T03:14:14","slug":"dki-jakarta-tops-this-years-we-love-cities-competition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2018\/07\/20\/dki-jakarta-tops-this-years-we-love-cities-competition\/","title":{"rendered":"DKI Jakarta tops this year\u2019s We Love Cities competition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>ICLEI- Indonesia celebrated with DKI Jakarta as the latter emerged as this year\u2019s top competitor in the We Love Cities campaign.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Held at the City Hall of DKI Jakarta on 19 July 2018, the awarding ceremony was attended by DKI Jakarta Governor, Mr. Anies Baswedan; Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) Indonesia, Mr. Rizal Malik;\u00a0and ICLEI Indonesia\u2019s Interim Country Manager, Gina Karina.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In his speech, the governor expressed his gratitude for the award and reported that Jakarta is experiencing improvements in various sectors particularly transportation and environment. He said that the award makes citizens of Jakarta proud and there is a need to maintain their good performance for the upcoming competition. Nevertheless, Mr. Baswedan stated that there is still a lot of work to do.<\/p>\n<p>Under the OPCC, Jakarta\u2019s actions and programs were assessed by an international jury. One criterion for selecting the national winner emphasizes the need for comprehensive innovation to address climate change through concrete actions. On the other hand, the WLC is a social media campaign which entailed citizen engagement in the form of voting. DKI Jakarta\u2019s victory signifies the high level of citizen participation and awareness on climate issues.<\/p>\n<p>DKI Jakarta successfully gained the most public support with achievements on social media accounting to around 164,954 interactions, which is 42,000 more interactions than the Pasig City, the Philippines which ranked second. The campaign, which ran from 07 May to 30 June 2018, also allowed DKI Jakarta to obtain 4,464 public advice on how to improve the urban development of DKI Jakarta. We Love Cities also served as a platform to collect citizen recommendations on areas that can make their cities more environment-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>OPCC, on the other hand, is the world\u2019s largest and longest running city challenge which aims to highlight city initiatives and recognize innovative solutions to the city\u2019s pressing problems.<\/p>\n<p>The partnership between WWF and ICLEI for the OPCC in the use of <a href=\"http:\/\/carbonn.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">carbon<em>n <\/em>Climate Registry (cCR)<\/span><\/a> enabled participating cities to mark their profiles on the global map and publicly report their climate commitments and actions at the local level.<\/p>\n<p>DKI Jakarta also serves as the model city of the ICLEI-led project, Ambitious City Promises which aims to accelerate and track the progress of their RAD-GRK while also putting premium on citizen engagement.
