{"id":2896,"date":"2017-12-18T09:58:58","date_gmt":"2017-12-18T09:58:58","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/icleiseas.org\/?p=2896"},"modified":"2018-01-24T08:19:05","modified_gmt":"2018-01-24T08:19:05","slug":"yogyakartas-enhanced-bus-system-as-seen-through-the-lens-of-its-beneficiaries","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2017\/12\/18\/yogyakartas-enhanced-bus-system-as-seen-through-the-lens-of-its-beneficiaries\/","title":{"rendered":"Yogyakarta\u2019s Enhanced Bus System as Seen through the Lens of its Beneficiaries"},"content":{"rendered":"<h5>The Enhanced Bus System of Yogyakarta is changing the public&#8217;s perception of their own mobility options.<\/h5>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/cdia.asia\/2017\/12\/06\/yogyakartas-enhanced-bus-system-as-seen-through-the-lens-of-its-beneficiaries\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">By Cities Development Initiative for Asia<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In August 2017, the CDIA Team embarked on a mission to do a\u00a0video documentary of the efforts of Yogyakarta City, Indonesia in enhancing its public transport system.<\/p>\n<p>In 2011, CDIA supported the city government to develop its public\u00a0transport strategy, and do a pre-feasibility study to\u00a0expand\u00a0the Transjogja Bus operation, among others. The interventions\u00a0sought to help address the poor conditions of the\u00a0public transport system back then, which was characterized by outdated buses, inefficient bus routes, long waiting times in unsafe and poorly lit areas, and high incidence of pickpocketing. At the same time, they\u00a0hoped to discourage\u00a0the\u00a0use of private vehicles, which exacerbates the\u00a0traffic condition in the city.<\/p>\n<p>The video has shown that the negative perception of people towards public transport is now making a U-turn for the better with the increased patronage of\u00a0Transjogja buses. In fact, the system now caters to about 13,000 passengers per day\u00a0\u2013 a testament of how its\u00a0smart innovations, paired with\u00a0inclusive and gender-friendly features are improving mobility and access in\u00a0Yogyakarta \u2013 be it for\u00a0men, women, children, students, elderly or those with special needs.<\/p>\n<p>Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=cme7PAu0dzM\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0to watch the video.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Enhanced Bus System of Yogyakarta is changing the public&#8217;s perception of their own mobility options.
