Ambitious City Promises project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Pasig City, Philippines: Pasig, Para\u00f1aque, and Marikina have officially signified their commitment to the Ambitious City Promises (ACP) during the project\u2019s launch today at the Joy-Nostalg in Pasig City.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Present during the launch are representatives from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, League of Cities of the Philippines, ICLEI Southeast Asia Secretariat, and ICLEI World Secretariat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Development partners from Rappler, World Wildlife Fund for Nature-Philippines, and Climate Reality Philippines were also present during the leveling-off workshop held on November 27 at the same venue.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Launched before a global audience on October 20 at the<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2017\/10\/24\/southeast-asian-cities-commit-to-low-carbon-urban-development-launch-of-the-ambitious-city-promises-at-the-seoul-mayors-forum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Seoul Mayors Forum on Climate Change<\/span><\/a>, <span style=\"color: #000000;\">ACP is a three-year regional project supporting cities in Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam to operationalize local climate action through an active and inclusive stakeholder engagement strategy.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Through ACP, Pasig, Para\u00f1aque, and Marikina will receive assistance from<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iclei.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">ICLEI- Local Governments for Sustainability<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<span style=\"color: #000000;\">and<\/span>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/english.seoul.go.kr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\">Seoul Metropolitan Government\u00a0(SMG)<\/span><\/a> <span style=\"color: #000000;\">in establishing and implementing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reductions strategies, taking into account the cities\u2019 development pressures and local context while also emphasizing the importance of citizen engagement and working with relevant national ministries.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Drawing inspiration from the \u201cPromise of Seoul,\u201d a mitigation plan with the aim to reduce 20 million tons of GHG emissions by 2030, the project will be in close coordination with SMG.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Ambitious cities committed to scaling up local climate 100vw, 3456px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-2752\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Pasig City Mayor Bobby Eusebio emphasized the importance of improving the resilience of Pasig City and its residents.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Mayor Bobby Eusebio of Pasig City expressed full support for the project; citing that ACP could be an instrument in integrating climate strategies into the city\u2019s planning processes. Lauding the cities\u2019 noted programs on local climate action, the Assistant Secretary deemed Pasig, Para\u00f1aque, and Marikina as \u201ctrailblazers when it comes to environmental sustainability.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">\u201cWe are not reinventing but rather, we are continuing the momentum that these cities have done in safeguarding their environment and striving to make their cities livable and sustainable.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #000000;\">Regional Program Manager of ICLEI SEAS Mr. Ranell Martin Dedicatoria explained that the implementation of ACP, in cooperation with the ICLEI World Secretariat and ICLEI East Asia Secretariat, aims to integrate low carbon emission considerations in the development planning of Philippine cities. He further explained the role that citizens play in this initiative, &#8220;&#8230;we aim to help strengthen cities&#8217; public engagement, vis-a-vis, responding to climate change.
