Baguio City continues towards its 2043 Vision as 18 local government officials and 13 <\/span>Safe and Sound Cities (S\u00b2Cities)<\/strong><\/span><\/a> programme youth innovators collaborated in a recent capacity development workshop aimed at strengthening the city\u2019s youth engagement capacities and supporting the <\/span>youth\u2019s bold ideas<\/strong><\/span><\/a> for a safer and sounder Baguio.<\/span><\/p>\n

Held at the S<\/span>2<\/span>Cities-borne <\/span>SIGLAT – Baguio Youth Innovation Hub<\/strong><\/span><\/a> on 10 June 2026, the <\/span>workshop<\/strong><\/span><\/a> was co-organized by ICLEI Southeast Asia, the Cordilleran Youth Center, and the City Government of Baguio through the City Planning, Development, and Sustainability Office.<\/span><\/p>\n

Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong<\/p><\/div>\n

Delivering a short message during the program, Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong encouraged the youth in their critical role in urban development. The Mayor said in a mix of English and Filipino: \u201cHere in Baguio, we give so much importance to our young people. If you want to make a change in the future, someone has to start. And who is going to start? It\u2019s the youth. So believe in yourself, aim high, and don\u2019t underestimate your capabilities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop started with an introduction to the S<\/span>2<\/span>Cities programme and its <\/span>Baguio implementation thus far<\/strong><\/span><\/a>,<\/span> a <\/span>summary of SIGLAT\u2019s accomplishments<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and a presentation and application activity on <\/span>ICLEI\u2019s Youth Engagement Strategy<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and <\/span>Unlocking the Power of Youth Checklist<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n
