{"id":10667,"date":"2026-06-02T04:07:30","date_gmt":"2026-06-01T20:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/?p=10667"},"modified":"2026-06-02T04:07:30","modified_gmt":"2026-06-01T20:07:30","slug":"baguio-city-named-resilience-hub-by-undrr","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2026\/06\/02\/baguio-city-named-resilience-hub-by-undrr\/","title":{"rendered":"Baguio City named Resilience Hub by UNDRR"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6 style=\"text-align: center;\"><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Photo by <span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.pexels.com\/photo\/colorful-architecture-on-a-busy-street-in-baguio-33389361\/\">via valbuena\/Pexels<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<\/span><\/i><\/h6>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Baguio City has been named a Resilience Hub by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), recognizing the city\u2019s established track record in disaster risk reduction and resilience and commitment to support and mentor other Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030) municipalities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the second local government unit (LGU) in the Philippines to receive the designation after <\/span><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2022\/11\/29\/makati-ph-is-southeast-asias-first-resilience-hub\/\">Makati City in 2022<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and is the fourth in Asia and seventh in the Asia-Pacific region.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The designation was made official on March 26, 2026 after regional- and global-levels of screening.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The UNDRR designates <\/span><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcr2030.undrr.org\/resilience-hub\">Resilience Hubs<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to enhance city-to-city collaborations and peer-to-peer support. Having a critical role in knowledge sharing, capacity building, and creating learning opportunities, Resilience Hubs are global models expected to inspire other local governments to commit to greater resilience.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/mcr2030.undrr.org\/\">Making Cities Resilient 2030 (MCR2030)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is a cross-stakeholder initiative for improving local resilience through advocacy, sharing knowledge and experiences, establishing mutually reinforcing city-to-city learning networks, injecting technical expertise, connecting multiple layers of government and building partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In a <\/span><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/dev-test.baguio.gov.ph\/media\/news\/5E1r8GOn\/baguio-fulfills-goal-to-become-resiliency-hub-by-2026\">press release<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the Baguio City LGU said it has been working to align the city\u2019s policies and programs with global frameworks such as the Sendai Framework for Disaster Risk Reduction and the Sustainable Development Goals before being designated as a Resilience Hub. The city took on a data-driven approach using a ten-point disaster resilience scorecard to assess existing systems and programs, followed by a rigorous monitoring and evaluation of implementation progress and challenges. Baguio City reportedly focused on implementing programs such as green infrastructure development, nature-based solutions, and enhanced monitoring of risk scenarios to address the growing threats of climate change.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As a Resilience Hub, the city will share its expertise and best practices from key initiatives, including inclusive multi-hazard early warning systems, benchmarking of its Smart City Command Center, community-based data gathering and risk assessment training, and hosting regional and inter-city resilience forums.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The City Government of Baguio is a <\/span><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #00ccff;\" href=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2026\/05\/20\/baguio-city-receives-iclei-membership-plaque\/\">member of ICLEI<\/a><\/strong><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and has been involved in several ICLEI Southeast Asia projects.
