{"id":10432,"date":"2026-02-21T12:55:17","date_gmt":"2026-02-21T04:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/?p=10432"},"modified":"2026-02-21T12:55:17","modified_gmt":"2026-02-21T04:55:17","slug":"philippine-and-indonesian-cities-push-for-youth-led-urban-safety-in-regional-peer-exchange","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2026\/02\/21\/philippine-and-indonesian-cities-push-for-youth-led-urban-safety-in-regional-peer-exchange\/","title":{"rendered":"Philippine and Indonesian cities push for youth-led urban safety in regional peer exchange"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>(in photo above) Representatives from the Philippines and Indonesia during the Safe and Sound Cities Global Learning Network Roundtable in Baguio City, Philippines last 22-23 January 2026.<\/h6>\n<p>Twenty-seven youth, local government, civil society, nonprofit, and private sector representatives from the Philippines and Indonesia\u2014part of the Safe and Sound Cities (S\u00b2Cities) Global Learning Network (GLN)\u2014convened in Baguio City, Philippines on 22\u201323 January 2026 for the GLN\u2019s first Regional Roundtable.<\/p>\n<p>Led by the Global Infrastructure Basel Foundation (GIB) in partnership with ICLEI \u2013 Local Governments for Sustainability \u2013 Southeast Asia (ICLEI SEA), and hosted by the Cordilleran Youth Center (CYC) and the Baguio City Government, the GLN Roundtable showcased the critical learnings of the S\u00b2Cities programme throughout its implementation thus far; shared case studies, experiences, and best practices on youth-led and youth-oriented approaches to urban safety; and gathered insights on how the GLN can maximize its potential for peer-to-peer learning and exchange.<\/p>\n<p>The participants also visited various S\u00b2Cities infrastructure outcomes in Baguio City, including the <a href=\"https:\/\/icleiseas.org\/index.php\/2024\/11\/05\/providing-a-platform-for-youth-innovation-empowerment-towards-a-safe-sound-city-the-case-of-baguio-city-philippines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>SIGLAT Youth Innovation Hub<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Oj6SSojGceg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>Happy Paws Pet Park<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and the <a href=\"https:\/\/cordilleranyouthcenter.com\/liwliwa-ya-sursuro-winners-in-action-team-saluysoys-ip-center-hub-renewal-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #00ccff;\"><strong>renewed Baguio Indigenous Peoples Center<\/strong><\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Programme cities represented at the roundtable included Baguio and Naga in the Philippines and Bandung in Indonesia, alongside six network cities \u2014 three each from the two Southeast Asian nations. This is complemented by the Mobile Youth Hub, an innovation incubator on wheels. A key learning included the value of engaging not just youth leaders but even those who are not in leadership tracks. City Councilor Jefson Felix Romeo, who also serves as Sangguniang Kabataan (Youth Council) Federation President, also noted that Naga has institutionalized a Barangay (Village) Youth Development Ordinance allocating city funds for youth-led innovations beyond the S\u00b2Cities framework.<\/p>\n<p>S\u00b2Cities Phase 1 youth innovators also offered their experiences developing and implementing withdrawal from the Naga S\u00b2Cities Phase 1 innovation cycle became the foundation for a village-level innovation competition she later launched as an elected youth official.<\/p>\n<div Kami Ruang Ketiga\u2014which translates to &#8220;We Are the Third Space&#8221;\u2014grew from a four-person student project under S\u00b2Cities into a registered Indonesian non-profit with over 80 Team Verdant Spires is developing a community greenhouse using aeroponic vertical farming.
