Eight of the 12 winners are ICLEI Members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The winners were selected&nbsp;from over 160 applications across 45 countries, demonstrating practical innovations that reduce urban pollution, raise quality of life, and expand economic opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now in its ninth edition and delivered in partnership with C40 Cities, the Awards recognize outstanding local and regional initiatives that most effectively connect climate policy to daily life and accelerate Paris Agreement implementation. One Brazilian and one global winner were honored in each of the six categories.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Congratulations to our eight ICLEI Members winners and their initiatives:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category: Energy Transition &amp; Smarter Buildings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Juiz de Fora, Brazil&nbsp;\u2013 Transforming Energy:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Municipal Climate Neutrality Policy combines legislation, LED upgrades, and renewable systems to advance climate neutrality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category: Clean, Reliable Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Oslo, Norway \u2013&nbsp;&nbsp;Pioneering city for Zero-emission heavy duty transport:&nbsp;<\/strong>The Fossil Free Truck project accelerates zero-emission heavy-duty transport through contract mandates, new infrastructure, and grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>S\u00e3o Paulo, Brazil \u2013 Electrifying the Bus Fleet:&nbsp;<\/strong>The&nbsp;Municipal Program for Innovative Acquisition and Financing&nbsp;leads diesel-to-electric fleet replacement with innovative financing and partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category Safer Infrastructure for a Changing World<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Rio de Janeiro, Brazil \u2013 Extreme Heat Response Protocol:<\/strong>&nbsp;Brazil\u2019s first heat health plan integrates early warnings, public cooling centers, and cross-agency coordination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category Healthy Cities, Strong Communities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Barcarena, Brazil \u2013 Food System for Sustainable Development and Food Security:<\/strong>&nbsp;Strengthens family farming and agroforestry for food security and sustainable livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category Sustainable Waste Solutions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><b><\/b><strong>Quezon City, Philippines \u2013 Trash-to-Cashback Program:&nbsp;<\/strong>Turns recyclables into redeemable rewards, cutting waste and creating green livelihoods.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Salvador, Brazil \u2013 Recicla Capital:&nbsp;<\/strong>Expands selective collection and circular economy initiatives through technology and cooperative empowerment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Category Power of Partnership<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Government of the State of Piau\u00ed, Brazil \u2013 Ecological ICMS:<\/strong>Rewards municipalities for environmental performance through an innovative tax-sharing model.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Winners were selected by a distinguished international jury, comprising Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary, United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC); Dr. Laurence Tubiana, CEO, European Climate Foundation; Teresa Ribera, Executive Vice-President, European Commission for a Clean, Just and Competitive Transition; Dan Ioschpe, Climate High-Level Champion, COP30; Antha N.
